A Texican Once Again!

If you're born a Texan, you're always a Texan.  Even spending the past nine years in Louisiana where we loved the place, the people, the FOOD, and our many new wonderful friends, I always considered myself a Texan...and if people asked where I was from, I always said "I live in Louisiana but I am from Texas!"  Texas is just in your blood.

I am so happy and proud to say we are back!

For those who know us well, we have always dreamed of owning some acreage in this amazing, beautiful State...and we finally followed our dream back to a very little town in East Texas...Winona. We recently bought 51 acres and became residents 577 and 578 in this cozy town.  The 1931 farmhouse on the property was once the local Mercantile (Jackson's Store) and has lots of history associated with it.  The original owner's daughter who we bought it from lives nearby and she has shared a few tidbits with us that are pretty interesting. She was born in the house and has lived here all her life so she certainly has a lot to tell!

One story of interest I will share now...

One day her father, Mr. Jackson, went outside to gas up a car for a young couple...apparently they had spent the night at the Starrville Community Center about half a mile up the road the night before.    While pumping their gas, Mr. Jackson noticed several guns in the backseat.  When he went to the driver's window to collect payment, the young man driving said " I don't have any money right now but you can have my wife's wedding ring as collateral and I will pay you when I come back through."  Mr. Jackson, wisely wanting them to move on, told the man that his wife needed to keep her ring and that he could just pay the bill if he ever came back through...and so they left.  It was the last gas that young couple ever got.  They drove to Louisiana that day in 1934 and both Bonnie and Clyde met their bullet-filled demise!
